How do I get started?

Taking the first steps towards initiating therapy can be difficult, so don’t put off to tomorrow what you can do today.  The best way to get started is to contact Dr. Kisner by either calling her at (646) 494-2722 or completing the CONTACT form.   Dr. Kisner will schedule a brief phone consultation with you to determine whether her training and philosophy is a good fit for your needs.

What should I expect from the intake appointment?

The intake appointment is really a dual interview where Dr. Kisner will learn about what brings you to therapy and you will learn about her style and approach to treatment.  This appointment lasts between 60-90 minutes, during which you will describe your current symptoms, emotions, problematic behaviors, and relevant history.  Dr. Kisner will share a proposed treatment plan and together, you and she will decide whether you are a good match for treatment and therapeutic success.

How often will we meet?

Individual therapy sessions are typically 45 minutes in length.  The frequency of therapy sessions is typically once a week, but this may vary based on your specific treatment plan.

What is the typical length of treatment?

Evidence-based treatments are typically short-term interventions.  That being said, the length of treatment depends on your particular treatment goals. You will work with Dr. Kisner to create behaviorally-specific goals that you would like to achieve while you are in treatment.

Do you accept insurance?

Dr. Kisner is considered an “out-of-network” provider and does not accept insurance.  You will be billed directly for your session and payment is expected at the end of each session.  Dr. Kisner will provide you with a statement with pertinent information that you can then submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.

How will I know if my insurance company will reimburse me for services?

It is recommended that you contact your insurance company to learn about your “out-of-network” benefits and reimbursement rates.  It is best to do this before therapy starts so that there are no interruptions in treatment.  To find out if you will be reimbursed for treatment, it is often necessary to provide the CPT code for the service provided.  The CPT code for an intake assessment is 90791.  The CPT code for a 45-minute individual therapy session is 90834.  Your insurance company will process your claim and reimburse you directly.
